The Smethport Campaign for United Way, managed locally by the United Way of the Bradford Area, is the midst of its fifth appeal and looking to raise $15,000 to benefit the Smethport area.
Since 2012, more than $45,000 has been raised through the campaign, and Executive Director Mandi Wilton Davis is confident that the monetary goal will be reached again.
“We surpassed the $15,000 goal last year, and we’re looking to do that again in 2016,” said Davis. “The goal is to raise more to benefit more of the agencies to make their programs and services possible; agencies that are heavily relied upon in the area.”
With money raised in 2015, 11 agencies located in or serving residents of the Smethport area received funding: Alcohol & Drug Abuse Services; CARE for Children, CASA of McKean County; Christian Community Services’ Food Pantry; Hamlin Memorial Library; McKean County 4-H; McKean County Cooperative Extension; McKean County Conservation District; Smethport Memorial Recreation Center; Smethport Senior Center/Elderberries Club; and the Smethport Volunteer Fire Department
